First Some Geography!!!

Handmade Ecuadorian Jewellery, that makes a difference.

Whilst their men risk their lives on the dangerous pacific ocean catching fish for a very low income, the women, mothers and wives of the nature reserve, produce jewellery from seeds and coconut shells to sell to tourists that venture out into the reserve or in the local tourist destinations of Esmeraldas or Atacemes. 

With their current equipment it takes them currently 2 days to make a necklace which they sell locally for just a couple of dollars.

Here are some pics of examples of their work, the pieces are made from seeds that grow naturally in the rainforests such as Tagua, Jaboncillo, Caraca Rojo and Coconunt Shells.

 

 

 
Phase:1 Product testing:  so that we can get a feel of what products are interesting for the market we have made a small order of high quality Jewellery from producers in the mountains. We are now testing with our partners what works.

How we aim to make a difference:

i) To generate funds to be able to buy stock from the producers to reduce transport costs per unit (for example: transporting 10 kg instead of 1kg packages reduces the transport costs per unit by over 1 dollar) 

ii) To build marketing material so that the products and range of possibilities are professionally presented.

iii) Acquire new machinery so that the women can produce a higher quality product more efficiently.

iv) Source higher quality materials for stringing and earrings. 

v) Build up customers in the UK and Germany.

vi) Develop designs and train the women in producing products requested by European customers and to meet their expectations.
